A private non-profit institution, The Children’s Museum, Seattle (TCM) is the region’s pre-eminent early childhood development institution for children birth – 10 years and their families.  TCM brings to life the joy of discovery for children and their families through fun, creative, hands-on explorations of the world around them.  Located on the first floor of the Seattle Center’s Center House, the Museum serves 230,000 visitors annually including school groups, youth organizations, off-site at-risk youth programs and sponsored admissions programs.

Position Title: Membership Services Manager

Position Function and Purpose: Plan and implement strategies for membership operations; oversee membership sales team.

Position Requirements:

  • Experience providing customer service with a consistently pleasant and professional demeanor
  • Ability to motivate and lead staff in the implementation of acquisition and membership programs.
  • Experience handling multiple tasks in a fast-paced public setting
  • Proven track record using cash register systems, reconciling cash drawers and/or bookkeeping experience
  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills (poised, professional verbal and written communication) with customers and coworkers
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a member of a team, take initiative, and exercise good judgment in a dynamic, deadline driven environment
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and juggle priorities under pressure
  • Extensive computer knowledge of Windows Office XP – Access, Excel, Outlook, and Word
  • Experience and desire to work with children and families
  • Great sense of humor

Essential Functions:

  • Participate in developing and executing annual membership plan to fulfill the Museum’s annual organizational goals
  • Help manage the Membership Services Desk, ensuring Museum visitors and members receive reliable service and information.
  • Ensure accurate balancing of all membership purchases on an daily, monthly, and yearly basis
  • Supervise activities related to free membership programs for low income and at-risk families.
  • Hire, supervise and evaluate Membership team members
  • Effectively track Membership income and expenses
  • Maintain confidential development filing system (paper and electronic) to ensure consistent and accurate data integrity
  • Ensure processing of new and renewing Memberships, providing membership cards and related materials at point of purchase
  • Ensure entry of member data with precision and maintain accurate member information in database
  • As needed, perform related administrative tasks such as mail merges, stuffing Membership packets, copying, generating reports, etc.
  • Manage special Member events (including occasions after hours and on weekends)
  • Coordinate with Fund Development and Marketing on communication projects directed at Members, on promoting Museum to Members, and on fundraising.

Non-Essential Functions:

  • Maintain a positive, customer-comes-first attitude when interacting with visitors and colleagues
  • Provide simple IT trouble shooting when necessary
  • Assist with membership, cultivation and fundraising events
  • Attend All-Staff (monthly) and Membership Team (weekly) meetings as scheduled
  • Other related duties as assigned

Education requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent, college graduate (or equivalent) preferred

Schedule:

  • Full-time position, regular schedule includes at least 1 weekend day, occasional evening and holidays required

Compensation:

  • $25,000 to $30,000
