Brighten up those dark winter days and come to The Children's Museum to explore the traditions of cultural celebrations from around the world!

WEEKEND PERFORMANCES
Cultural performances every Saturday and Sunday from 1:00PM – 3:00PM.

Diwali: December 5 – December 11
Diwali is a popular festival throughout India, celebrated by lighting fireworks, exchanging sweets and gifts, and burning oil lamps.

Las Posadas: December 12 – December 18
Las Posadas is a celebration that commemorates Joseph and Mary’s voyage from Nazareth to Bethlehem in search of shelter (posada means shelter in Spanish).

Santa Lucia: December 19 - December 25
The feast day of Saint Lucia is a popular festival of light in Sweden.

Hanukkah: December 26 – December 31
This Jewish holiday celebrates the victory of the Maccabees over the Syrians in 165BC, and the miraculous burning of one day’s worth of oil for eight days.

Loi Krathong: January 2 – January 8
Loi Krathong is a Thai celebration that happens on the full moon of the 12th lunar month. People float krathongs, or leaf cups, topped with a lit candle, sending it off and making a wish.

Kwanzaa: January 9 – January 15
Kwanzaa is an African American and Pan-American holiday which celebrates family, community and culture.





INFORMATION FOR TEACHERS

Bring your students to the Museum for a unique educational experience where they will explore the history, arts, costumes, games, music, and stories associated with cultural holidays from around the world.

Facilitated Group Visit
An introduction and performance by a cultural group affiliated with the festival you have chosen (this could be a traditional dance performance, storytelling, or music), as well as a guided, hands-on activity to further explore the traditions of your selected culture.

Visit Times: 9:30 AM, 10:30 AM, 11:30 AM, and 12:30PM
Cost: $175 for each group of 25 children and accompanying adults. 4 adults are included in the $175.00; additional adults and children are $6.00 each.
Location: The Center House at Seattle Center


Self Guided Group Visit
Call for more information regarding our self-guided option.

Be sure to ask about the museum's Sponsored Admission Program. The children in your group who receive federal assistance may also qualify for free entrance to the museum.
